February Cold and a little bit of snow

Feb 2021

Life in the Garden continues what ever the weather, as life prepares itself for a new season.

March is a wonderful time in the garden when everything comes to life as Spring approaches. Snowdrops, aconites and crocuses look great now, and daffodils will start to peak in late March. Best enjoyed in full sun. Don’t miss the Winter/Spring border - red, yellow and green stems of dogwoods stand out against the underplanted spring bulbs and hellebores  -  and take in the scents of the early-flowering shrubs.

Early-flowering pink and white ornamental cherries and yellow-flowered Cornellian cherry (Cornus mas) will come into flower, a sure sign of Spring. As the weather warms, look out for early pollinating insects. Our honeybees will be out and about, and on warm, sunny days you may be lucky enough to see yellow brimstone butterflies and large queen bumblebees. Lots to see.

Check out the pond too for newts and maybe even some frogspawn
